Lucy Maud Montgomery's 141st Birthday

Lucy Maud Montgomery OBE (November 30, 1874 – April 24, 1942), publicly known as L. M. Montgomery, was a Canadian author best known for a series of novels beginning in 1908 with Anne of Green Gables. Anne of Green Gables was an immediate success. The central character, Anne, an orphaned girl, made Montgomery famous in her lifetime and gave her an international following. The first novel was followed by a series of sequels with Anne as the central character. Montgomery went on to publish 20 novels as well as 530 short stories, 500 poems, and 30 essays. Most of the novels were set on Prince Edward Island, Canada, and thus locations within the Canadian province became literary landmarks and much visited tourist sites. She was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1935.

Montgomery's work, diaries and letters have been read and studied by scholars and readers worldwide.

Hedy Lamarr (9 November 1913 – 19 Januari 2000) adalah seorang aktris dan matematikawan Austria-Amerika yang terkenal karena kecantikannya dan menjadi bintang kontrak besar pada "Zaman Keemasan" MGM. Max Reinhardt, rekan kerjanya di Berlin, menyebut Lamarr "wanita tercantik di Eropa" karena "tampilannya yang sangat eksotis dan gelap," sebuah sentimen yang kemudian terus disebut-sebut oleh para penonton dan pengkritiknya. Ia mulai terkenal setelah membintangi Ecstasy karyaGustav Machatý, sebuah film yang menampilkan cuplikan tokoh yang diperankannya saat melakukan orgasme di salah satu adegan dan telanjang bulat di adegan lain. Kedua adegan tersebut tidak lazim pada masa pemikiran konservatif yang merupakan masa puncak kariernya.

Berbakat di bidang matematika, Lamarr bersama komponis George Antheil menemukan sebuah teknik komunikasi spektrum sebardan perpindahan frekuensi pertama yang diperlukan untuk melakukan komunikasi nirkabel sejak zaman pra-komputer sampai sekarang.

Charles Joseph Sax’ (1791–1865) dan Antoine-Joseph Sax atau Adolphe Sax (lahir pada tanggal 6 November 6 1814 di Dinant, Belgia dan meninggal pada tanggal 7 Februari 1894 di Paris, Perancis) adalah sepasang ayah dan anak pengrajin alat musik dan penemu alat musik saksofon. Charles adalah seorang pengrajin alat musik tiup kayu dan logam, piano, harpa dan gitar. Sedangkan Adolphe adalah putra sulung dari Charles. Adolphe mulai mempelajari cara bermain dan pembuatan alat musik flute dan klarinet di Brussels Conservatory pada tahun 1842, ia pergi ke Paris. Di sana ia memeperkenalkan alat musik saksofon, sebuah alat musik tiup yang terbuat dari metal dengan ujung peniup yang berbentuk kerucut yang dibuat dari usahanya untuk mengimprovisasi alat musik klarinet bass. Alat musik tersebut dipatenkan pada tahun 1846. Charles dan Antoine kemudian mengembangkan alat musik sakhorn yang dipatenkan pada tahun 1845, alat musik ini merupakan pengembangan dari alat musik bugle horn dan kemudian alat musik sakso-tromba, yang memproduksi nada yang mirip dengan suara bugle horn dan trompet dan terakhir mereka menciptakan alat musik saktuba.

Boole maintained that: No general method for the solution of questions in the theory of probabilities can be established which does not explicitly recognise, not only the special numerical bases of the science, but also those universal laws of thought which are the basis of all reasoning, and which, whatever they may be as to their essence, are at least mathematical as to their form.

Duke Paoa Kahinu Mokoe Hulikohola Kahanamoku (August 24, 1890 – January 22, 1968) was a Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) competition swimmer, who is widely credited with popularizing the ancient Hawaiian sport of surfing. He was born towards the end of the Kingdom of Hawaii, just before the overthrow, living well into statehood as a United States citizen. He was a five-time Olympicmedalist in swimming. Duke was also a law enforcement officer, an actor, a beach volleyball player and businessman.

His name "Duke" has often been confused with a royal title however, it was his given name, passed down from his father. His grandparents were attendants to the Kamehamehas. While not a formal member of the royal family, he was descended from Alapainui, who ruled Hawaii Island.
